Jennifer joined David Morley Architects in 2005 to work on the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, which won the RICS Sustainability Award in 2010. She leads the practice’s Environmental Team, which provides sustainable design consultancy, BREEAM services and Whole Life Cycle Carbon Assessments and also manages the Practices ISO 14001 certification.

Her career has specialised in both public and residential architecture, with a strong emphasis on energy efficient and naturally ventilated buildings.

Jennifer studied architecture at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. After completing RIBA part 3 at the University of Westminster in 1986, she gained extensive experience in the residential sector, from bespoke design of dwellings for individual clients to large-scale, public-sector community regeneration projects including the Kings Cross Estate.

She became an NHER Energy Assessor in 1994 and completed an MSc in Energy & Buildings at Cranfield University in 1999. Her thesis was supported by the Boots pharmaceutical company and covered improvements in energy performance and thermal comfort conditions of the Grade 1 listed Boots ‘Wet’s’ building, including testing the efficacy of proposals via thermal simulation modelling.

She has been project architect and advisor on a number of low energy buildings for universities and education and arts organisations in the UK, South Africa and the USA, including the UCL SSEES Library and Academic Centre in Bloomsbury, a library and design faculty at Judson College, Chicago, Illinois, Poole Arts Centre in Dorset and Rhodes University Library in Grahamstown, SA.

At David Morley Architects Jennifer’s recent work includes a sustainable retrofit scheme for a listed Georgian house in Belgravia, redevelopment of a grade II* listed former mill in Bradford into apartments for Urban Splash, and the St Bernard’s Hospital redevelopment in Ealing. Further experience in a healthcare setting includes developing a flagship health facility for Ambulatory Surgery International (ASI) which includes orthopaedic theatres, endoscopy procedure rooms and an imaging suite.

Jennifer is an assessor for BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes and leads the DMA Green Group and maintains the company’s systems for management of its design processes, to facilitate attainment of best possible environmental performance, across all projects in the office.
