KEITH GREEN BUILDING, LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY
David Morley Architects rise above the competitors when it comes to interpreting the brief. They take what is put on paper, critically analyse it and interpret it, which is a useful and constructive way of working. They question the intentions at the outset and this is good practice. They won’t push blindly ahead disregarding the alternatives that might actually give the client a better building. They are approachable, and work quickly. Suggested changes would often be drawn within two hours which made the sign off process quick and efficient. Flexible way of working makes working with DMA a thoroughly enjoyable experience as it should be.

David Morley Architects have proven to be a superb, and extremely capable architectural practice who care, listen and action matters to the complete satisfaction of the client. Their skills are equally demonstrable in persuading contractors on alternative yet acceptable design solutions without always the need always for a cost increase.

THE BALCONY BISTRO, BARBICAN
Since the refurbishment, business has boomed and now stands at the highest levels. It was reviewed recently by Square Meal as: "Resplendent with its crisp, elegant minimalist new look, the Barbican's Balcony Bistro at last has a presence, it no longer is a poor relation to the glamorous Searcy's. Food is eclectic and excellent.

Quick out of the blocks and within a few short months it is delivering for elite, clubs and schools. Also an events programme we are struggling to keep up with ranging from international to local schools meets.

There has been no need for gimmicks to make this building attractive. I can see it appealing to the athletes. It’s lean and light.

David Morley Architects are good at listening and taking on board the client’s point of view. They are accommodating from the start, and intelligently interpreted the brief; it was never a battle to get what we wanted.

This is a building with a complicated programme that has been resolved with clarity in both form and plan. The architect’s practised hand with metal and glass lends refinement, while the careful manipulation of daylight helps create an interior of architectural incident.

INDOOR ATHLETICS CENTRE, BRUNEL UNIVERSITY
The restrained bulk of the two sports buildings contributes to the campus-scape by forming a gateway and providing harmony with, and a counter-point to, the adjacent residential buildings. The Brunel sports centre slots comfortably into the practice’s oeuvre of confident and well-crafted sport buildings.

THE NATIONAL CRICKET ACADEMY, LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY
It is reassuring as a client, to know that David Morley is personally involved in the initial design of all schemes. It felt like you were always there when we needed you, either at the end of a phone or on site. Your collaborative approach to relationship management was much appreciated. I regarded this as a very much enjoyable project.

WALK-IN CENTRE, LUTON
What looks like a brand-new, up-market infill building was in fact converted from a particularly off-putting, system-built, 1960s block. Morley’s reworking has made it more exciting and accessible.

The architect has shown great sensitivity in his handling of demanding requirements, thinking hard about the details that make a patient’s stay as comfortable as possible.

The best thing about the Morley building is definitely its compositional management of the site. Once through the gates, the new building manages to induce that “Oxford” sense of tranquillity.

[David Morley Architects] have produced a design that is proving highly successful in terms of the core goals of the project – a state of the art research facility that establishes integration and collaboration within the biological sciences research community. The building has also made a strong impact on the city, transforming the northeast corner of the precinct and a key gateway site into a memorable landmark.

A remarkable building which represents a radical departure from the traditional sports pavilion and shows what can be achieved in a heritage setting. It is accessible, environmentally sustainable and has given a new lease of life to sport in Regent’s Park.
